    I’ve had a green and pink artist alley booth since 2015 and I agree, I don’t see that combo too much. I’m about to get a new banner after someone else got a gingham one like I’ve had all this time. It’s just time to get a little more to date even if I’m old school haha. I sew plushies (fabric and embroidery, not crochet) so it’s harder to do aesthetic because plush take up a lot of space. And also I’d rather show more plush. So it means I can’t just have a set display and so I build around plush. I keep trying to innovate to find something more suitable and flexible and I’m getting there. Colossalcon was probably the most my set up has matched vision and I wish to expand on that because I feel like this is it. It clicked! I also have a benefit of standing out more because of having 95% plush at my booth and it’s a contrasts to prints and such. I make my own patterns (next year will be 20 years plush sewing so I have that experience) and while I do use bought ones, I’m trying to move away from that because I notice a lot of booths are only those bought or free patterns. So using my own does help me stand out more. I hope. I also try to have a few big ones each con to grab attention. While I charge a few hundred for those, they also benefit me by bringing people in for the lower dollar items. I’ve noticed a big growth when I started making of reels of what I make. It’s been really great success here on UA-cam and TikTok and instagram. I loved this video. I feel I’m weird and maybe too old school in ways, but I just do my best. It’s all you can do!

    I loved this interview! It highlighted an interesting topic that I like to piggy back on: artist alley applications are becoming more competitive. I too believe the rise of artist alley vloggers who share their successful experiences at shows has significantly increased the number of applications, making the competition tougher for everyone. Many applicants need to understand that a show's success depends heavily on the art and products offered. Just because one artist had a great experience doesn't mean everyone will have the same success at that show in the future. In fact, I know artists who didn't do well at shows that vloggers praised as amazing. Vloggers should emphasize this disclaimer imo…that their positive experiences are personal and may not reflect the experiences of all artists at the show. This point may seem obvious, but it's often overlooked. Hearing someone did great tickles an excitement from the viewers (artists), that they often forget their niche, or style, or the show itself may not be a good fit. For example, at Anime Central, I went to help an artist friend. During downtimes, I would monitor the feedback on Discord. The experiences were mixed: some did great, some artists barely made enough to cover their table costs, while others found that despite good sales, it wasn't enough to justify the travel expenses. Prospective applicants need to realize that a show’s success for one artist doesn't guarantee success for all. “Charge it to experience” is good and all, but that experience could have been filled by another artist much ready for a big show. And……….yeah, I may sound bitter that I didn’t get into ACen 😂

      @Mualcaina 3 дні тому

      Thank you for sharing your experience! (I too am lowkey bitter I didn’t get into ACen this year LOL) but I’m surprised to hear the mixed feedback from everyone’s con experience w ACen 🫣 I had to learn from experience that some events may be amazing for others while not so great for myself, and unfortunately we need to remind ourselves that everyone’s AA experience will be different and not to take it personally 🥲

    These have been super helpful! I'm a vendor for the first time come this July and im super hyped but also nervous. Its a small local con but there will still be thousands of people there. Fantastic vid and so much amazing information in here! I've been doing cons since 2012 and it's surreal how much more competitive AAs have become post-pandemic lockdowns. Seeing set ups at Sakura Con last year really opened my eyes to how MUCH everyone has improved and how important branding is in this latest era. It's nice seeing another AA vet on the podcast and I was soooo excited to see y'all both in a thumbnail! The patreon portion really hit me hard as I also struggled with the same issues with putting out monthly products. Glad to know I wasn't alone in that! As always it's fantastic to hear y'alls perspective. Thanks for sharing all your info, it's invaluable!

    You both actually helped me out with your vlogs when I first started out vending last year, and it was great meeting you both in-person too! I also had a corporate creative job in the past, but it left a bad taste when they laid off our entire creative department for downsizing. I'd rather grow my own brand than work for a corporation who doesn't care if they lose you haha. I still have a creative full-time job, but I think of vending as a breather from working to do something different and an opportunity to meet more artists outside of social media. ✨

    • @Mualcaina
      @Mualcaina 4 дні тому

      Vending AA is definitely a different experience vs working corporate! I do feel the same in preferring the option of putting all my effort in a business that would directly benefit myself vs a corporation 🫢
